Itinerary
our journey begins with a warm welcome at Entebbe International Airport by your safari guide, who will brief you on the itinerary and provide important details about the trip. From Entebbe, you will drive towards Kibale Forest National Park, famously known for its high population of chimpanzees and other primates.
The scenic drive takes approximately 5 to 6 hours, passing through lush green countryside, traditional villages, and the impressive tea plantations of Fort Portal. Along the way, you can enjoy a lunch stop at a local restaurant before arriving at your lodge in the afternoon. After checking in, relax at your lodge and prepare for the next day’s primate adventure.
Wake up early for a hearty breakfast before heading to the park headquarters for a briefing by the park rangers. Kibale Forest National Park is home to 13 primate species, including chimpanzees, black-and-white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and grey-cheeked mangabeys. It is considered one of the best places in the world for chimpanzee tracking.
You will venture into the forest with experienced guides who will lead you through the dense vegetation in search of the chimpanzees. The tracking can take between 2 to 4 hours depending on the location of the chimpanzees. Once you find them, you will spend an hour observing these intelligent and social creatures as they swing through the trees, feed, and interact with each other.
After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and some relaxation. In the afternoon, you have the option to take a guided nature walk in Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a birdwatcher’s paradise known for its diverse bird species, butterflies, and primates.
After breakfast, you will depart for Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s most visited national park, renowned for its rich wildlife, stunning landscapes, and the famous Kazinga Channel. The drive takes approximately 3 hours, allowing you to pass through the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains, often referred to as the "Mountains of the Moon."
Upon arrival at Queen Elizabeth National Park, you will check into your lodge and enjoy a relaxing lunch. In the afternoon, embark on an exciting game drive in the park’s northern region, the Kasenyi Plains. This area is known for its abundance of wildlife, including elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, lions, and various antelope species. Keep your camera ready as you might also spot leopards and hyenas during the drive.
Start your day with an early morning game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park, focusing on the Kasenyi sector, which is popular for lion sightings. This area is also home to large herds of buffaloes, elephants, warthogs, and several antelope species. Your experienced guide will help you spot wildlife and share fascinating insights about the park’s ecosystems.
After the game drive, return to the lodge for a late breakfast and some relaxation. In the afternoon, head to the Mweya Peninsula for a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, a natural waterway that connects Lake George and Lake Edward. The boat cruise offers a unique perspective of the park’s wildlife, including hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of water birds such as pelicans, fish eagles, and kingfishers. Large herds of elephants and buffaloes can often be seen along the shores as they come to drink water.
On the final day of your safari, enjoy a leisurely breakfast before beginning the journey back to Entebbe. The drive takes approximately 6 to 7 hours, but you can stop along the way at the Equator for a photo opportunity and some souvenir shopping. You will arrive in Entebbe in the late afternoon or early evening, in time for your onward flight or transfer to your next destination.
For those with an evening flight, you can arrange additional activities, such as a visit to the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre or a relaxing boat cruise on Lake Victoria, before your departure.
